Have you ever done something that caused the dislike or ridicule from someone, or a group of people? It may have been a mistake like burning the popcorn, letting people down by being late, or nothing at all; you're just being picked at. Or something serious: you really screwed up. In any way, you have become the focus of attack and animosity. But, then comes a person who takes the hostile attention from you and takes it unto him/herself. Now you're forgotten and everybody turns against him/her instead. The hostility that was yours is exchanged with the compassion offered.
