Often when Jesus performed miracles He performed the miracles not only out of love and care for the individual but also to make a point to those who were listening. In this passage Jesus not only performed a miracle but also demonstrates His authority and power. This ability to forgive was considered by the Pharisees as a blasphemous claim but we do believe that Jesus is God and has ultimate power to forgive. No one is beyond His reach.
