On June 16, 1944, the State of South Carolina legally executed George Stinney Jr., a 14-year-old African American boy by sending over 2,400 volts of electricity through his body until he was dead. Stinney Jr. was accused of murdering Betty June Binnicker, 11, and Mary Emma Thames, 7, while they were out picking maypop fruits.
