Once Maria started getting involved in the school system in Arlington, VA she tried to hear the other side of the story. She would invite pro-transgender parents out to coffee, or just try to ask them questions and really get a better sense of what they were going through and what was gong on. But they all refused. They'd say things like, "Oh, I know who you are" and not even give her the time of day. That piqued her interest because usually if you offer an olive branch to someone, they'll take it and try to talk to you. Unless, of course, they're in a cult.
