Cristina García was born in Cuba, a land she always keeps in her imagination and in her narrative, but she grew up in the United States. Her work, starting from the 1990s with her first book Dreaming in Cuban (Alfred A. Knopf, 1992), which was nominated for the National Book Award, continues today with her latest novel Vanishing Maps: A Novel (Alfred A. Knopf, 2023), that she will present it at the Texas Book Festival 2023 alongside Rosa Beltrán, author of Free Radicals, and Sylvia Aguilar Zeleny, author of Trash. Today, Garcia joins "Hablemos, escritoras" on an English-language podcast to discuss her career, her experience as a Cuban-American, and how she sees Cubans as a vast diaspora living all over the world. She studied Political Science at Barnard College and earned a master's degree in international relations from the School of Advanced International Studies at Johns Hopkins University.
