Niagara Falls: beautiful, powerful, magnificent. A wonder of the world. It never ages because the water, the energy, the life force that's pouring over it is always new in every instant. But what is Niagara Falls, really? It's nothing. It's an empty space where Lake Erie pours forth in a unique way. If God is all-loving and all-knowing, where does all the suffering come from? We are the source of everything that shows up in our lives. What sense is there in the tragic experiences of our lives? Our setbacks feel so permanent. These setbacks feel all the more terrible when we are striving to create good in the world. Because as soon as we set our desire in motion through prayer or intention, we're on a conscious path of growth. "Tragedy" strikes while we're growing and simultaneously trying to hold onto our sense of identity: all of the people, the places, the situations we've become attached to and identified with as "me." This is when we start to really freak out, dig in, and try to hold on to our protective shell. Put another way, just when we start to crack open and emerge into an experience of greater love, joy, abundance, or whatever it is we have committed to ...it feels like something "bad" is happening to the circumstances we've become accustomed to. We might even call in some healers to try to heal our situation, to repair the cracks, because if you have the ability to fix what appears "wrong" with your body, your relationship

We all want more confidence and self-esteem We all know that acknowledging and validating and seeing the goodness and the greatness in your child or in anyone is very necessary. And we all know that, in many cases, that acknowledgment and validation is completely absent. Or (and worse, ironically), we try to boost others' self-esteem by providing praise and rewards and making everyone win, even when they haven't achieved anything. But what many people might not know is the damage this creates. When you promise yourself that “I’m going to write this book," or "I’m going to lose these 10 pounds,” - whatever it might be - but then you don’t follow through, you’ve just breached your own inner structural integrity. One morning at 4am, the Northridge earthquake threw me out of my bed and convinced me that I was about to die. It really shook me up. For days, I walked in fear, facing my mortality and the realization that my body and existence could end in an instant. Most of us carry this fear of death. It shows up as a literal fear of loss of our body, but also dominates our lives as a fear of death of parts of life such as the death of a relationship, a job, a dream, or our physical beauty. But what, exactly, is it that would die? As I continued to ponder this over the following days, the truth suddenly hit me hard. Just as physical objects take up limited space in an infinite universe, time is just a limited concept within eternity. I realized that immortality is what's real, and my short, mortal life is just a limited concept. This meant that I - the real Self that is the true "I" - cannot die! So what does die? What dies is our mortal concept of time and space: our limited concept about ourselves and our lives.

Some people think that life is a crap shoot, that life is the roll of the dice. But, as Einstein correctly said, “The dice of God are always loaded.” In other words, life doesn’t just happen. There is order. There is a certain pattern and lawfulness to life. But there's a catch. Not only is life set up ...life is set up to fail you. Your life is designed in such a way that you will, sooner or later, experience what I call "The Big Betrayal." You’ll experience The Big Betrayal because, not understanding how God has loaded the dice, you’ll follow what you’ve been taught: to give away your power to that thing or person you think you need for support. If it’s a job, for example, you’ll start to be less and less who you really are. You won’t say or do what you really want, because you'll be afraid you’ll lose your source of income. Until you understand how God’s dice are loaded, you’ll have to manipulate and control, cajole and twist yourself into a pretzel to do and be whatever you think is necessary to get

What is true freedom? And why should you strive to have true freedom? What’s the reward? In many therapy and self-help programs, such as 12 step programs, it begins with a desire to have freedom FROM something: freedom from pain, bondage, limitation, addiction. But, as the Buddha taught, aversion - our desire to get rid of something in order to be free - is part of the core of the false self. See, if we’re trying to be free from something, we’re still married to it vibrationally. As long as you’re focused on what you’re being free from, you’re still in bondage to that very thing. In fact, the more we try to get freedom from, the more bonded we become to that cycle and the more we’re stuck on that wheel of karma. Every time we try to get or “get rid of” from that place, we create more karma because we’re increasing our sense of separation from the one life, the source, and the substance of all of creation. That substance of all creation is who and what you are now ...not who you’re going to be when you g
