Philippians 1:1-18 - Speaker: Lukus Counterman - Philippians is a book that focuses on the gospel. Paul repeats the word “gospel” over and over again, using it six times in the first chapter alone. While imprisoned in Rome, Paul was reflecting upon the ministry that had taken place in the city of Philippi. It was an urban context where the gospel was proclaimed, it took root, and bore precious fruit in the years that followed. It all started on the riverbank where a prayer meeting was being held, and from there, the gospel continued to spread. The good news, the message of hope and life even made it down to the city’s innermost prison. The Gospel was powerfully changing people and a church was ultimately established. You can almost picture Paul sitting in his Roman imprisonment reflecting on the amazing work of God. God had done some really incredible things in Philippi, and he can do the same today right here in Salt Lake City through the power of the gospel. May he encourage our hearts with his great work o

Isaiah 40:1-31 - Speaker: Lukus Counterman - In Isaiah 40, the people were teetering on the edge of despair. It was as though the ships bearing their dreams had sailed out of sight and all that was good had been taken from their lives. Perhaps they thought, “There goes my hope. There goes my happiness. All I can look forward to now is one long death sentence.” But when our thoughts fall that way, what does God do? He comes with a message of consolation and comfort. To all who are oppressed and afflicted, to those who have shattered dreams and failing hopes, God comes with a message of comfort. He offers strength to the weary and endurance to the fainting. May the Lord help us to wait on him and be renewed this morning.

  • Holding On To Hope

    Holding On To Hope

    03/05/2020 Duración: 48min

Psalm 42 - Speaker: Lukus Counterman - In Psalm 42, the life of blessing has been tested in the crucible of difficult experiences. As one author aptly put it, the “How are you?” of life is for once answered truthfully: “I feel awful.” The psalmist shares real feelings about real life. Maybe things we can relate to in this COVID-19 environment. The fact is, sometimes the life of faith feels more like a withered landscape in the midst of a drought than like a tree planted by rivers of water bringing forth fruit and prospering. Sometimes disappointment and wearisome sadness sweep over us like wave upon wave and we feel overwhelmed. So what are we to do when we are struggling with spiritual depression? What can we do when we are distressed or oppressed by the circumstances of life? What can we do when we are taunted by opposition from without and within? The psalmist says that we must preach to ourselves and pray to our God. In the midst of our weariness, may God teach us to hope in him.

Psalm - Speaker: Alex Morrison - We are faced with countless opportunities to make decisions every day. The weight of making the right decision weighs on us and can cause us to avoid wanting to make choices for ourselves. • A Dark Day But a Brilliant End

A Dark Day But a Brilliant End

    26/04/2020 Duración: 53min

Daniel 11:1-12:13 - Speaker: Lukus Counterman - In Daniel 10-12 we read the final vision of this prophet in his old age. The Lord showed Daniel some of the events at “the time of the end” when kingdoms would rise and fall, when the Antichrist would come to power and unleash devastating persecution on God’s people, and when God would display his sovereignty over all things. At the close of this prophetic book, we discover that God wins. He wins even though his people may suffer. He wins even though the grave seems to get the last laugh. God wins because in the end he will resurrect those who are his to everlasting life. May the Lord comfort the hurting and stabilize the suffering with a fresh vision of his sovereignty as we wrap up our series in Daniel. May we be exiles who look with expectation to the One who is sovereign over all.
