  • NLMA 034 Desktopia

    23/02/2007 Duración: 08min

Customization is fun! I'm such a customization freak. There's nothing in the world I like more than tweaking my background picture, or messing around with icons in my dock. OK, not true. I like plenty of other things more that tweaking, and I use Overflow, so no icons in the Dock anymore. But still, this app is a fun little freeware thingy. Go get it! App name: Desktopia Developer: Pierre Chatel Promotion in podcast: no (freeware)

When itunes just doesn't cut it... I'm a sucker when it comes to mellow music (can I say this 'sucker' or is this considered as explicit?). I really am. You just go and try getting a smart playlist that gets all the soft, slow music together. It doesn't work. Ditto when it comes to the opposite. Any 'mood' related playlist really. But Tangerine! succeeds in a very original manner. App name: Tangerine! Developer: Potion Factory Promotion in podcast: yes (go check out the episode... you don't want to miss this)

I tried to make this. On The Job is the ultimate Time tracking tool from the same developer that created Overflow. It's 'the ultimate' because it just bout nails it when it comes to all the functionality that I would expect from an app like this. And it remains being slick, basic and simple. NLMA interview with the man behind Growl, Adium,...: Chris Forsythe

  • NLMA 021 Growl

    04/11/2006 Duración: 24min

My main brawl with open source applications in the end always boils down to the same thing. They're ugly and often not very intuitive. I'm going to get mail about this one, I know... but I'm right! I just don't see an open source operating system getting the same level of consistency as OS X for instance. And the advantage of a consistent OS is that apps that run on that OS naturally inherit that consistency. But once in a while I'm wrong. And boy am I glad I'm wrong about this app. App name: Growl Developer: Growl Team, led by Chris Forsythe.
